Have you heard?! The Fun Spot USA located right next door to us, by Old Town, will be getting its first roller coaster! It’s called The Galaxy Spin, and it’s a 55 foot-tall “wild mouse” coaster that seats up to four people per car! This wild mouse coaster is a small roller coaster that takes tight, flat turns and averages 30 miles per hour. It will provide different experiences depending on how many people ride it at a time and how much they weigh. Those factors can cause variation in the spins and turns the cart takes.
The Galaxy Spin is the 20th ride at Fun Spot USA and it will be incorporated within the $34.95 all-rides armband. The $34.95 armband includes all of Fun Spot’s thrill rides, go-kart tracks and other attractions. A $24.95 armband includes all of the attraction’s rides except the go-kart tracks. Individual admission – three Fun Spot tickets – amounts to about $9 per ride.
This new ride is planned to open this Christmas. The folks at The Fun Spot USA will be working hard this fall. If you visit us during the fall, be sure to take a peak and check out the progress. We’ll try to walk over from time to time and take some photos to keep you updated.

Do you know about Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? It begins May 21 and runs for 4 consecutive weekends ending June 13th. This event brings fans of all ages together as they come face to face with their favorite Star Wars characters. If you are anything like my husband and son, you’ll want to be there very, very early – between 5:30-6:00am, before the park opens to stand in line for Fast Passes to meet the celebrities.
The Star Wars Weekend event fills Disney’s Hollywood Studios with more than 50 Star Wars characters from the entire saga, including the evil Sith Darth Vader and Darth Maul, Greedo, Queen Amidala, Anakin Skywalker, R2-D2, the loveable Wookiee Chewbacca, Twi’leks, Rodians and every hero, heroine, droid and villain in between. Jedi Mickey Mouse has even been known to make an appearance. While in line for the Star Tours attraction one year, I was startled to find Darth Vader standing behind me in line! My family thought it was funny, but I have to say, there’s something about being face to face with Darth Vader! Yikes!
This year celebrity hosts will be Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett from Empire and Return of the Jedi) and Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka) from The Clone Wars. The celebrity line up for 2010 is as follows:
- May 21-23 – Temuera Morrison, Daniel Logan, and Dee Bradley Baker
Morrison played Jango Fett as well as the clone troopers in the live action movies, while Daniel Logan played Boba Fett and all the clone cadets in Episode II. Baker is the voice of all the clone troopers in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, including the ever popular Captain Rex.
- May 28-30 – Matthew Wood, Lorne Peterson and Tom Kane
In addition to providing the rasping voice of General Grievous and his chatty battle droids, Matthew Wood is also a sound editor on the Star Wars prequels and The Clone Wars. Lorne Peterson is a veteran ILM model-maker who worked behind-the-scenes on all six Star Wars movies. Tom Kane is the voice of Yoda in The Clone Wars, and also the narrator who begins each show with a rousing introduction.
- June 4-6 – Billy Dee Williams, Ray Park, and Dave Filoni
Williams is of course famous for his role as Lando Calrissian, administrator of Cloud City and Rebel hero. Ray Park is the energetic, acrobatic villain Darth Maul from Episode I, and Dave Filoni is the supervising director of The Clone Wars.
- June 11-13 – Ray Park, Peter Mayhew and James Arnold Taylor
Ray Park returns for a second weekend, and he is joined by Peter Mayhew, the gentle giant behind the walking carpet – Chewbacca the Wookiee. James Arnold Taylor provides the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Clone Wars, as well as Plo Koon.
Star Wars Weekends features a variety of activities such as: “Star Wars Trivia,” with prize giveaways; “Star Wars: Jedi Training Academy,” allowing kids under 12 to hone their light saber skills and prepare to do battle with Darth Vader himself; and a motorcade featuring favorite Star Wars celebrities.
Star Wars celebrities are on hand each weekend for photos, Q&A, autograph sessions and Hollywood-style motorcades.
These Star Wars Festivities are included with regular theme park admission.

I read something that made me remember something that I did with my family several years ago. It was a lot of fun and had a minimal cost - which nowadays we’re all looking for! I checked and it’s still going on, so I thought I would share this with you.
A friend had told us that they went over to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground and had a great time for free?!! So, looking for something different to do - we packed the kids and my visiting in-laws into the car and headed over. And what a great time we had! There were campfires set up for everyone to enjoy. We bought a couple of s’mores kits and roasted marshmallows over the campfire. We all enjoyed the yummy treats and just had a nice time.
I called Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground and was told it is still going on. It’s called the Campfire Singalong and it takes place every night. It’s open to anyone who would like to go and you don’t need to call ahead and make a reservation. They have a singalong that starts between 7pm and 8pm. Seating is on bleachers and benches or you can bring your own folding chairs or blankets. Chip and Dale join the fun and lead the kids in dances like the Chicken Dance and the Hokey Pokey. They pose for photos and sign autograph books too. And as if all this fun was not enough - a classic Disney movie is shown. And it’s all at no cost!!
So if you are looking for something different to do during your visit, no need to make a reservation, just head over to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campgrounds at the designated time. It takes place near the Meadows Trading Post. To get to the campground itself, you can either drive or take a boat over from the Magic Kingdom, Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian Resorts. For more information call Disney at 407-824-2788.

Most people who visit Kissimmee are more than a bit surprised to find that cattle ranches, rodeos and cowboys have played such a big part in the area’s culture. But it’s true! All of these were around long before Mr. Walt Disney came to town and changed Central Florida forever.

Located just 10 miles/20 minutes from the Seralago Hotel & Suites, the Silver Spurs Rodeo is an Osceola County tradition since 1944. Founded by the Silver Spurs Riding Club to promote good horsemanship and good fellowship in Osceola County. It has grown to one of the most successful rodeos in the country, the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi and is ranked annually among the top 50 events sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
Held at the state-of-the-art, indoor Silver Spurs Arena, the rodeo features a variety of exciting events. Dust off your Stetson and watch such events as Bareback Bronc Riding, Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping and even Mutton Bustin’ for the kids.
Admission is just $15, kids 10 & under are free.

Here’s a little known tid-bit… Did you know that you can ride up front with the monorail driver? All you do is ask the cast member at the gate where you wait to catch the monorail. They only allow up to 4 people to join them in the front car. Usually the drivers are very friendly and will give kids a special certificate. Sometimes they have special trading cards to give out about the different types of transportation available at Walt Disney World. It has interesting facts and statistics. Enjoy the ride! — I’ve been told that for safety reasons, Disney has discontinued this.

In celebration of the holiday season, and just for fun, here is a parody I found on the Internet that puts a Florida spin to the classic A Visit from St. Nicholas — more popularly known as The Night Before Christmas (Thank you to Clement C. Moore for his wonderful poem.)
T’was the night before Christmas, and all through the town, no noses were frozen, no snow fluttered down. No children in flannels were tucked into bed; they all wore shorty pajamas instead! To find wreaths of holly was not very hard, for holly trees grow in every back yard.
In front of the house were Daddy and Mom, decorating the crotons and coconut palms. The sleeping kiddies were dreaming with glee, hoping to find water skis ‘neath the tree.
They all knew that Santa was well on his way, in a red and white Mustang, instead of a sleigh. He whizzed up the highway and zoomed up the road, in a snappy convertible, delivering his load.
As soon as he arrived and started his work, he hadn’t a moment to linger or shirk. As he jumped from his car, he gave a deep chuckle; he was dressed in Bermudas with an Ivy League Buckle.
There were very few chimneys, but that caused no gloom, for Santa came in through the Florida Room. He stopped at each house - stayed only a minute, empting his bag of the toys that were in it.
Before he departed, he treated himself, to a glass of fresh orange juice that was left on the shelf. He turned with a bounce and jumped in his car, remembering he still had to go very far.
Turning the key, he lit up the dash, and up Interstate 4 he went like a flash. But we heard him exclaim as he went on his way, “Merry Christmas y’all, I wish I could stay.”

Get a Pay-As-You-Go cell phone to attach to your child. Program the adult phone numbers and ICE (In Case of Emergency) numbers into the address book of the phone. Emergency Responders (Police, EMTs, etc) are taught to look in address book listings on cell phones for ICE numbers. If, when typing in the name, a space is put before the name or the letters ICE, that information will appear at the top of the address book list. (Spaces rate higher in digital alphabetizing.) Emergency Responders will then know who to contact in case a minor child or even an adult are lost or incapacitated.
Thank you to Anita W. for sharing this tip with us!
